White farmers still persecuted in Zimbabwe

Less than 600 out of 4,500 large-scale producing white commercial farmers remain in Zimbabwe after President Mugabe drove the majority off the land and gave their farms to ZANU PF loyalists and war veterans in a chaotic and often violent campaign...

STATE security agents and former liberation heroes have launched fresh farm invasions to occupy farms and dispossess the few remaining white commercial farmers still farming in Zimbabwe.

The Commercial Farmers Union (CFU), the main representative body for white farmers told Religious Intelligence on Wednesday that state security agents and war veterans had embarked on fresh farm seizures in almost all of the country’s eight farming provinces where they are ordering white farmers to vacate their properties before the start of the new farming season in about two weeks time. “Things have progressively got worse. There are lots of new offer letters being given out and lots of new invasions. Houses are being broken into by new settlers. The worst affected areas are Manicaland, Masvingo and Mashonaland East, West and Central,” said CFU President Trevor Gifford.

Gifford said though the farmers’ body had made police reports in some instances the police were refusing to act and arresting the culprits.
