Study: Immigration Law Enforcement Helps Check Criminal Street Gangs
WASHINGTON — A new Center for Immigration Studies Backgrounder finds that immigration law enforcement has been highly effective in fighting gang activity around the country. Local law enforcement agencies that shun involvement with immigration law enforcement are missing an opportunity to protect their communities, according to the authors. Since 2005, ICE has arrested more than 8,000 immigrant gangsters from more than 700 different gangs under an initiative known as Operation Community Shield.
The Backgrounder, “Taking Back the Streets: ICE and Local Law Enforcement Target Immigrant Gangs,” by Jessica M. Vaughan and Jon D. Feere, was funded by the Department of Justice and describes the unique public safety problems posed by immigrant gangs. The authors present previously unpublished statistics on gang arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), describe how immigration law enforcement authorities are used to combat gang activity, and offer policy recommendations to improve federal-local cooperation without damaging relations with immigrant communities.

Flight of white Britons from UK leaps to 70,000 per year … but population still rising as Eastern Europeans come to Britain
Thousands of Britons leave our shores every year for a new life abroad, official figures show.
But although 75,000 ‘white British’ men and women are moving away, the population is still rising because of an influx of ethnic minority groups.
According to Government estimates, the established white population of England dropped by nearly 250,000 between 2002 and 2006.
Official figures have previously indicated that about 50,000 Britons head for Australia each year and about 30,000 for New Zealand. Last year, a record 400,000 left the country to live abroad for at least 12 months.
Yesterday’s estimates, which show how each ethnic group grew or diminished between 2005 and 2006, provide further evidence of so-called white flight’.

Racial Quotas In Malaysia: Grim Warning For America
Over the course of several trips to the South East Asian country of Malaysia I have been struck by how similar Malaysia’s race relations are to America’s—despite the obvious enormous differences. The official Malaysian policy of dispensing privileges by race may even be a warning of what the future may hold if our current policies and demographic trends continue.
Malaysia is about 60 percent Malay, 25 percent Chinese, and 8 percent Indian. In the 19th century, the British colonial government found that the native Malays did not want to work in tin mines or on rubber plantations, so they imported people who did: Tamils from India. The British also worried that smart Chinese immigrants would dominate the country. They therefore deliberately steered business to Malays and recruited them for government jobs. They feared—rightly as it turned out—that Malays would turn ugly if they thought Chinese were getting too far ahead. The British wanted Malays to keep getting a leg up even after independence in 1957, so when they drafted a constitution for the new country, they included Article 153 specifically to “safeguard the special position of the Malays and natives” through relatively mild preferences in education, the civil service and business licenses.
The races rubbed along without too much friction until 1969. That year, Chinese political parties nearly upset the ruling Malay coalition and held a victory parade through Malay neighborhoods in the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. The Malays didn’t like Chinese flaunting their power, and rioted, killing hundreds of Chinese. [Race War In Malaysia, Time Magazine, May. 23, 1969]

Federal sweep targeting illegal immigrants snares 1,150 statewide
In the biggest action of its kind, federal immigration agents have arrested more than 1,150 people statewide in raids targeting illegal immigrants who ignored deportation orders.
The 3-week sweep, which ended Saturday, netted 420 people in Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles and Orange counties. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not break down arrests by county.
The arrests are the latest part of a crackdown the government launched in 2003 against illegal immigrants who violate deportation orders or similar mandates. Nationwide, arrests of “immigration fugitives” have surged seventeenfold in the past five years. More than 30,000 people were apprehended in the crackdown in fiscal year 2007, almost 2,500 in the four-county Los Angeles area.
Eric Saldana, assistant director of ICE’s Los Angeles field office and former head of a ICE fugitive operations team, said the sweep is a warning to other illegal immigrants.

Tories Reveal Their Plan for Britain’s Multicultural Nightmare: More Integration, Not Less
The Tory plan to solve the multicultural nightmare (into which they and the Labour Party have plunged Britain) is to have even more integration of Third Worlders into British society, not less.
In an astonishing display of duplicity and two-faced cheek — because the Tories were, along with Labour, the original exponents of multicultural Britain who encouraged mass Third World immigration — Conservative spokesman Dominic Grieve has announced that “multiculturalism has left a terrible legacy which has allowed extremists to flourish.” (Alongside: Tory leader David Cameron bowing and scraping in a Birmingham mosque.)
Speaking to a daily newspaper, Grieve said “cultural despair has led long-term inhabitants and newer arrivals to feel alienated and unsure of UK values.”

Skilled Migrants Will Account for 100 percent of Workforce Growth in Canada by 2011
[...]
Immigrants will be even more important in the coming years as the “baby boom” generation that entered the work force in the early 1960s to late 1970s is now beginning to retire. These workers cannot be completely replaced by recent graduates as there are just not enough young Canadians available to do it. In fact, by 2030 Stats Can predicts that immigration will be the only source of population growth.
Many key industries are subsequently now in a position where they are being forced to turn away work as they simply do not have the volume of expertise in their workforces.
Speaking in greater detail, Paul Charette, Chairman of the Canadian Construction Association said that “The shortage of skilled workers is crippling our country’s economy. In my industry alone, close to 260,000 new workers are needed over the next eight years.”

Sheriff’s immigration tip line ringing off the hook
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is seeing an upswing in calls regarding businesses allegedly hiring illegal immigrants.
The Sheriff’s Office has tip lines for the public to call about unlawful employment of illegal immigrants; drop houses where migrants are kept after entering the U.S. from Mexico; and day laborers looking for work.
Arpaio said his office has received 904 calls so far this year regarding claims of illegal immigrant hiring. That’s up from 647 such calls for all of 2007.
“And the year isn’t over yet,” Arpaio said.

Karl Rove—Architect Of The Minority Mortgage Meltdown
Whose fault is it?
Last week, the mainstream conservative punditry finally picked up an idea I had first put forward in August 2007 (and developed with more detail last June): that an underestimated factor the financial crisis set off by the mortgage meltdown is our reigning ideology of multiculturalism and diversity.
In other words, this is a minority mortgage meltdown—and it may trigger a Diversity Recession.
Unfortunately, not having studied the question as long as I had, some of the conservative talking heads tended to put forward naïve, self-serving, or unpersuasive versions of this theory,—such as that the banking crash wasn’t the fault of greed in the financial industry, it was the result of the Democrats in Congress passing the anti-redlining Community Reinvestment Act in 1977.
The reality is that blame is very widely shared: among Democrats and Republicans, businesspeople and politicians, Congress and the Executive Branch, borrowers and lenders, and whites, blacks and Hispanics.
There’s one man, however, who has so far escaped any blame. Few have realized something that turns out to have been staring us in the face all along: that the mortgage mess was, in sizable measure, an outgrowth of the primary political goal of the Bush Administration.
That man’s name is Karl Rove.

Austria’s far right makes big poll gains
The Social Democratic party held on to its position as Austria’s largest political group in yesterday’s general election, but its win was overshadowed by massive gains by two far-right parties.
The ballot resulted in a highly fragmented political landscape that will make it difficult to form a new coalition government.
According to preliminary results the Social Democrats slid from 35 to 29.7 per cent, a better showing than the latest opinion polls predicted, while its current coalition partner, the centre-right People’s party, tumbled from 34 per cent to a disastrous 25.6 per cent. It was a historical low for the two parties that had dominated the country’s political system since 1945 and ruled jointly in a grand coalition for most of that time.

Study unearths Australian racist views
FOUR in 10 Australians believe some ethnic groups don’t belong here, a study has shown.
And one in 10 have outwardly racist views, a study shows.
NSW appears to be the most racist state, but the project’s lead researcher, Kevin Dunn, attributed this to Sydney being the focus of immigration.
The study, led by the human geography and urban studies professor and his team from the University of Western Sydney, shows that racism remains high despite having waned over the years.
